In the end, I still find it to be worth having. Parts that are the new hotness are mostly missing. I would prefer symbols that better reflected the device's functionality.ĭevice coverage tends to be good for well-established popular parts. (At least, as much as I can recall.) That goes for diodes and transistors as well as higher pin-count devices. Pinouts that are almost always in package pin order, and almost always a box. The schematic symbols tend to be fairly lazily made IMO. You definitely have to double check the footprint, though - I've found it wrong on a few occasions. The imported footprint also shoves a bunch of extra data in various layers, so I end up having to massage them before I like them. I prefer having full 3D modeled designs of my PCB - in theory, UL provides 3D footprints, but in my experience, most of the parts I have imported from UL lack 3D data. I have UltraLibrarian "lite" which is no longer offered.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. If anyone out there has used Ultra Librarian components and/or the integration with OrCAD (which seems pretty straightforward from their demo) I would really love to hear some opinions to help decide if this is a good solution for us.

But being able to pull from a large database that is at least somewhat consistent and reliable would save an immense amount of time and effort and perhaps even put us ahead of schedule. I imagine it will be a "trust, but verify" situation where we will still be vetting the parts and adding them to our own libraries before use. I have been searching for user responses to what they offer, and opinions on whether or not it is worth using, and haven't found much. It seems they are adhering to IPC and ANSI standards pretty well, and partnering with DigiKey to link up to their inventory. I have been looking into various methods and solutions for building a reliable library, and have come across Ultra Librarian. They have recently switched from Eagle to OrCAD Capture, and I am in charge of creating a process to build an approved component library that is ready to use in our schematics.

I recently joined an IPC manufacturer that is moving toward designing more circuits (mostly mainboards).
